Frequent rainy warm days lead to active fungus issues in our St. Augustine lawns. One of the most common is Grey Leaf spot fungus. This fungus reduces new growth, weakens established turf and can kill large areas of St. Augustine grass. The fungus is most noticeable by the oblong smokey patches on the individual blades of grass. Warm rainy days, typically May through September create the perfect conditions for excessive leaf wetness, high humidity, and wet soil. These conditions are favorable for fungus activity to begin and flourish. Be sure to check your sprinkler clocks and rain senors during times of heavy rain. Water your lawn between the hrs of 2:00am and 8:00am. This will allow the grass to dry during the dryer days and help prevent potential fungal problems.
